What resin we use

August 7, 2024

Now a days there are so many different brands that produce resin it might be hard to know what to use. We use two different types of resin, and they are used for very different applications. The first one that we use is MAS Epoxy art resin, we use this one for all of our rolling trays and dab trays. The reason that we use this one is because we really like the way the resin acts meaning it is a thicker resin so when we are pouring multiple colors there is less likely of a chance of colors just mixing together and turning into a poop brown color. Instead of just mixing together they stay more separated and also react off each other depending on the pigment’s we use. We have really had some amazing results using this resin and can honestly say that we have never had any issues. The second resin that we use is Alumilite Clear cast slow, this resin we use it for making our dugouts and dab picks. This resin is specifically used for casting and turning blanks. We have first tried this resin many years back and have stuck with it ever since, it is an amazing product and always turns up an amazing result. There are two caveat’s to using this resin the first one is that it only has a 12-minute open time, this means that once you start stirring you can’t stop because that 12 minute goes fast. Even though this seems like short time you get used to it and really find that it works well, we have even found ourselves with some extra down time waiting for the perfect time to get the resin poured. The second thing is that since it is such a short open time you need use a pressure pot so that you can remove all of the air bubbles as quick as possible before the resin cures.

Both Mas Epoxy Art Resin and Alumilite Clear Slow resin are two products that we are going to keep around for a while because we have always had amazing results.
